President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and eldest daughter Ivanka Trump on Monday visited Jerusalem's Western Wall, one of Judaism's holiest places May 23, 2017.
While their presence was historical, as Donald Trump is the first sitting president to do so, but it was deeply personal for Ivanka.
Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism prior to her 2009 marriage to Jared Kushner. The couple practices Orthodox Judaism and needed a rabbi's blessing to break Shabbat as they traveled with the president to Saudi Arabia and Israel.
"Even hardened Israeli pundits stated that 'Ivanka, is a member of our people,' applauding her for the quiet moment," the Jerusalem Post describes. "Agree or disagree with her religious choices, many Jews have been moved to tears at the Kotel. And yesterday, Ivanka became one more among them."
